Nolan's Story
Seven years ago, our brave boy Nolan underwent life-saving open-heart surgery to repair two complex congenital heart defects. In the days leading up to his surgery on November 15, 2018, we did everything possible to make him strong for the journey ahead.
Handing our baby over to a group of strangers was the hardest moment of our lives. We waited for updates and held our breath until the phone call came from the Operating Room: “Nolan is successfully on bypass.”
Those words meant that his tiny body was fully dependent on machines keeping him alive. Hours later, we received the update we had prayed for: “His heart is beating again.”
That day and the long hospital recovery that followed changed us forever. We saw how fragile and precious life truly is and learned the meaning of strength through the smallest heartbeat.
During our stay at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, one small but powerful tool made a big difference in Nolan’s recovery: the Baby Shusher. The steady “Shhh…” sound soothed him when we could not, helping him rest and heal. Even the doctors and nurses commented on how calming it was.
That experience became our inspiration to give back to the hospital and staff who gave us forever with Nolan, by donating Baby Shushers to families walking the same path. What started as one small act of gratitude has grown into a mission of comfort and connection for families who need it most.
Over the past seven years, we have donated more than 3,000 Baby Shushers to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, each one serving as a small reminder of hope, comfort, and peace for families walking the same road we once did. We do this to honor Nolan, the incredible staff and doctors, the heart warriors still fighting, and the tiny friends who left this world far too soon. 🧡
